With a very important holiday coming up, we wanted to answer questions like: “What is National Health Center Week?” and “Why do we celebrate it?” Find the answer to these questions and more in the following blog post.
National Health Center Week is a celebration of over 30 million patients being served by health centers across the United States, and a remembrance of all the health providers lost.
America’s health centers provide comprehensive care to their communities. National Health Center Week (August 8th through August 14th) strives to honor our first responders, nurses, staff, and other health care providers.

Over 30 Years of Celebration
This celebration has been in place for over thirty years. Community health centers were established in December of 1965. The first one was called Colombia Point Health Center, and it was founded by Doctor H. Jack Geiger of Harvard University and Doctor Count Gibson of Tufts University.
From there, the concept of a community health center spread like wildfire. Health centers now serve as a beacon of hope for migrant workers, the homeless, and the community as a whole.
National Health Center Week’s Goals
The goals of this week are to bring awareness to the migrant and homeless communities in our area and show our support for the health centers serving our community. We at PHC want to celebrate our dedication to providing high-quality service for almost twenty years.
It is our goal to continue to strive for the best hospital and specialty care possible. That is why our way to celebrate is to provide health care to as many people as possible during this week.
NHC Schedule – 8/8 – 8/14
While the official NHC week is from August 8th to August 14th, PHC is celebrating it from August 3rd to August 10th. Each day we will be at different locations serving the community with back to school vaccines and COVID-19 services.
